Time to be grateful, time to care,
Time to say grace, before luring the kids
into your lair
You give them chocolate, pecan, and even coconut pies
But then down comes the largest of lies
You call it dessert, a mash of puree
Spices and such, tufts of whipped cream,
So thick it will float like a cloud of dreams
Where plonked down in precious crowns
On top of the orange, in hopes of smiles and not frowns
But the silence covers the truth
They all know,
It’s not candy
or fruit.
But why stop with pumpkin, why not go all out?
Broccoli blend topped with sugar, or maybe mushed brussel sprouts
Drizzled with chocolate, a bit of a sugary glaze
Top it with cinnamon, everyone will graze
Sweet Veggie pie, sweet veggie pie, they will amaze
How about in a sweet puff pastry or a gramah cracker crust?
Maybe the vegetarians bellies will brim with lust
Oh that’s too weird, everyone will say
Instead, make pie from …
pumpkin
It’s perfect for the day
Where people say their thanks and all
And the next day people push each other down
at the shopping mall.
Happy Thanksgiving.
Love it! Love pumpkin scones. Love pumpkin cookies. But boo to pumpkin latte. We all have to draw the line somewhere.
That’s hilarious on the pumpkin latte.
Maybe its the spices I don’t like? I dunno but someone once gave me pumpkin spice yogurt pretzels. I ate a few to be polite but it wasn’t my favorite way to eat a pretzel.
Pumpkin pie,
I love it so,
Makes my heart sing,
Makes my heart glow.
Yet many have told me
They can let it go,
Don’t care at all
For that orange show
So they live their lives
Eating mince or pecan,
Not caring at all
For that orange plan
And while lemon or lime will
Win their hearts
Pumpkin pie will only win darts!
Love this! A difference of opinion is a good thing. 🙂
I love pumpkin pie. It’s one of my favorites. I like the taste and the texture, but the best thing is that it’s full of vitamins and fiber. A dessert that’s not too full of sugar. Pumpkins are very good for you. I think (and I’m guessing here) it came about as a tradition simply due to all the pumpkins available at this time of year. My other favorite pie (I’m sure you want to know) is pecan. But I don’t eat it at all. I just have happy taste memories of pecan pie, before I discovered the ingredients. Happy Thanksgiving.
You can eat my slice of pumpkin pie 🙂 I agree, at least its chockful of nutrients.
